{"id":2877,"date":"2021-10-11T07:56:03","date_gmt":"2021-10-11T07:56:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ab6.it\/uncategorized\/the-sculptural-groups-of-the-misteri-mysteries\/"},"modified":"2021-10-11T07:56:03","modified_gmt":"2021-10-11T07:56:03","slug":"the-sculptural-groups-of-the-misteri-mysteries","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ab6.it\/en\/uncategorized\/the-sculptural-groups-of-the-misteri-mysteries\/","title":{"rendered":"The sculptural groups of the \u201cMisteri (Mysteries)\u201d"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>On <strong>Good Friday<\/strong>, simultaneously to the procession which takes place in Trapani, among the typical alleys of Erice, parades, starting from the <strong>church of San Giuliano\u00a0<\/strong>(St. Julian), a smaller but not less evocative <em><strong>Processione dei Misteri<\/strong><\/em> (Procession of the Mysteries), composed of four sculptural groups, carried on the shoulders and depicting: <em>Jesus in the garden<\/em>, <em>The Flagellation<\/em>, <em>The crowning with thorns<\/em>, <em>The ascent to Calvary<\/em>, followed by simulacra of: <em>Jesus in the Tomb<\/em> and O<em>ur Lady of Sorrows<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>The <strong>sculptural groups<\/strong>, placed on \u201cvare (wooden supports used to transport them)\u201d, were built in the 18th century by artists from Trapani using the same technique of <strong>wood<\/strong>, <strong>canvas<\/strong> and <strong>glue<\/strong> with which the sculptural groups of Trapani were built: face, hands, feet and naked parts have been carved in the wood and fixed on an internal wooden structure made of wooden planks and cork; the clothes are made of canvas soaked with glue and gesso, then applied and modelled on the wood.
